About

About

Ostopack was founded in 2025 with a mission to solve an overlooked barrier in stoma care, involving equipment management for SSCNs (Specialist Stoma Care Nurses). This area is often overlooked as it has been unchanged for years, meaning current methods have become the norm. However, just because something has been done for a long time, that does not make it perfect.

Origin Story

Christopher El-Nahhas | Ostopack Founder

The challenge to manage stoma bag equipment was something I discovered and experienced firsthand when taking a year out from university to be a carer for my late mum, who had a stoma. I was shown by the nurses how to change her bag at home, but soon found difficulty in finding and remembering all the necessary equipment, especially out of a single-compartment bag.

Making regular trips to the hospital for checkups, I was surprised to see that there was no standardised method for SSCNs to manage their equipment. Many carried what they needed for the day in large single-compartment paper bags and trolley carts, which is especially challenging as multiple patients are seen in a day, meaning everything can get stacked on top of each other and products for different patients are mixed.

It was at that moment, I decided to dedicate my final year of my product design degree to tackling this area of healthcare, which is often overlooked and allow me to give back to the nurses for all their support they have given to me.

Ostopack started as an academic project, but as it came to a close, I felt as though I couldn’t ignore that I was designing for a genuine problem that I had the opportunity and knowledge to solve. The project involved collaborating and receiving feedback from real professionals who could benefit from the product becoming a reality.

Therefore, I decided to continue the project after graduation and evolve it into a mission dedicated to improving the future of stoma care.
